Another edition of the competition for the best master’s theses on competition and consumer protection organized by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection

Another edition of the competition for the best master’s thesis in the field of competition and consumer protection organized by the Office for Competition and Consumer Protection has been launched. The Competition Law Association is a partner of the competition, and the Polish Economic Society is the patron.

Since 2010 the Association has been presenting its own award in the competition for the best master’s thesis in the field of competition protection, and as of this year also in the consumer protection category.

The competition is designed to draw students’ attention to issues of competition and consumer protection. It is open to those who have graduated law or another field of study – economics, administration, or management. Theses in the field of competition protection should address issues relating to anticompetitive practices, merger control, state aid, or counteracting the unfair use of contractual advantage in the marketing of agricultural and food products. Theses in the field of consumer protection should deal with practices that violate collective consumers’ interests, abusive contract terms, or unfair market practices.

The following prizes are waiting in the competition for the best master’s thesis:

  • for taking 1st place PLN 7,000,
  • for taking 2nd place PLN 5,000,
  • for taking third place PLN 3,000.

In addition, the person who wins the award of the Competition Law Association receives a cash prize of PLN 5,000. It is possible to accumulate the awards of the Office Chairperson and of the Competition Law Association, but it also happens that the award of the Association is given to a different thesis than the one awarded by the Office Chairperson.

The finalists of the competition receive not only financial awards. One of the gratifications can also be a paid three-month graduate internship at the Office. In addition, with the consent of the authors, the winning theses or their excerpts may be posted on the Association’s website.

Submissions to the competition for the best thesis should include:

  • a completed application form,
  • a copy of the thesis,
  • a one-page abstract,
  • a certificate issued by the university authorities confirming the date of defense and the topic of the thesis.

The application form is available at: https://www.uokik.gov.pl/konkurs_prace_dyplomowe.php#faq3420.

You can send the set of the above documents in the case of a master’s thesis by email, via ePUAP, by post or submit it to the office of the authority until November 30, 2022, 4:15 p.m. On the envelope or in the title of the email, please write “Konkurs na pracę magisterską ― DK ― konkurencja” or “Konkurs na pracę magisterską ― DK ― konsumenci”, respectively.

You are cordially invited to participate!
