On June 21, 2018, a workshop on “Horizontal mergers” (the fifth in a series of workshops on “Competition Law Economics” organized by the Office for Competition and Consumer Protection, Compass Lexecon, and the Polish Competition Law Association) was held at UOKiK.
The first part of the workshop was dedicated to a discussion of the most important economic tools used in horizontal merger assessment and of the latest EU trends in merger control, with a particular focus on Poland. A case study was also presented. In the second part of the workshop, the speakers discussed that case study (the origin of which was without a fail identified by one of the panelists) and presented their analyses and commentaries on the subject. The meeting ended with a discussion involving the speakers and the workshop participants.
The workshop speakers included Aleksandra Boutin, Senior Consultant at Compass Lexecon; Dr. Katarzyna Czapracka, Partner at White & Case, Ms. Małgorzata Szwaj, Partner at Linklaters; Mr. Nikodem Szadkowski, Deputy Director of the Market Analysis Department, UOKiK; Mr. Xavier Boutin, Senior Consultant at Compass Lexecon, Adjunct Professor at Université Libre de Bruxelles, and Professor Damien Neven, Senior Consultant at Compass Lexecon, former Chief Competition Economist at the Directorate General of the European Commission, lecturer at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva.
