We are pleased to announce that on March 2, 2017 an award ceremony took place, organized by the Chairperson of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in collaboration with the Competition Law Association, for the best masters’ theses devoted to competition and consumer protection.

The Committee presented the Association’s award to Ms. Edyta Stopyra of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw for her thesis: “The abuse of a dominant position on the online advertising and internet search engines markets as  a challenge for EU competition law”, which she wrote under the guidance of dr. hab. Robert Grzeszczak. Ms. Stopyra was also honored with the top award for the best masters’ thesis  devoted to competition.

Other winners:

1. Mr. Kamil Bułakowski of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw for his thesis entitled: “Rebate schemes applied by dominant undertakings in light of EU competition law”, written under the guidance of dr. hab. Anna Zawidzka-Łojek (2nd place).

2. Ms. Lidia Dutkiewicz of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań for her thesis entitled:  “State aid law in the European Union. The perspective of financing of airports and agreements between airports and air carriers”, written under the guidance of dr. hab. Maciej Mataczyński (3rd place).

Mr. Marcin Mleczko of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow was distinguished for his thesis entitled: “Procedural and systemic problems related to the application of commitment decisions in Polish competition law”, written under the guidance of prof. dr. hab. Paweł Podrecki.

In the competition for the best masters’ thesis devoted to consumer protection, awards were granted to:

1. Mr. Wojciech Dybka of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow for his thesis entitled: “A consumer’s right to a trial”, written under the guidance of dr. hab. Marlena Pecyna (2nd place).

2. Ms. Marta Pietrzak, of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Jagiellonian University in Krakowfor her thesis entitled: “Influence of advertising on the content of a consumer contract”, written under the guidance of prof. dr. hab. Fryderyk Zoll (3rd place) and Ms. Patrycja Budzyńska, of the Faculty of Law and Administration at Łódź Universityfor her thesis entitled “Protection of collective consumer interests in light of the novelization of the Act on Competition and Consumer Protection” written under the guidance of dr. hab. Monika Namysłowska (3rd place).

The Committee also granted two awards:

1. to Ms. Katarzyna Morawska of the Faculty of Law and Administration at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw for her thesis entitled: “Legal regulations on the protection of a consumer’s privacy in the Big Data context” written under the guidance of dr. iur. Michał Będkowski-Kozioł.

2. to Mr. Michał Klein of the Faculty of Law and Administration at Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski University of Business and Administration in Gdynia for his thesis entitled: “Legal situation of a consumer of equity release services in Poland” written under the guidance of prof. Jerzy Młynarczyk.
